Timber frame team (past & present): Rob, Ethan, Jeremy, Daniel, Carol, Stephen, Ben (son Abe), Bruce & Carlton
Meet the timber frame team
Owner / Designer / Timber Framer / Sales
Stephen came from a broad background in woodworking that included furniture making, cabinetry, timber frame construction, and residential carpentry. With a passion for woodworking and experience working for others, Stephen went into business for himself. He wears many hats: boss, designer, timber framer, sawyer, errand boy, and self-promoter. Stephen was introduced to timber framing in a job working with a team of Belgian draft horses and a portable sawmill.
Being a business owner means Stephen is never really "off' work these days. But he does make time for enjoying the outdoors with his wife, Chanda, and three daughters, Katelynn, Marenn, and Lorinn. Spending time on the Chattooga River and hunting are other favorite activities.
Head Timber Framer / Workshop Manager
Ben is a long-time woodworker with tremendously varied experience. He began his journey with theatrical carpentry, building sets and props for the University of Mississippi. After graduation, Ben turned his interest toward home building. Involvement in every aspect of residential carpentry led Ben to timber framing. He considers this time honored craft to be the ultimate embodiment of beauty, strength, and tradition in woodworking.
Outside of work, Ben stays busy with his wife, Beth, and their two kids. Their home showcases beautiful custom furniture he makes in his spare time. Ben and Beth are a musical couple and can be heard performing around towns in Northeast Georgia. Ben is an avid kayaker and is on the Chattooga River as often as possible.
A native of central Florida, Ethan moved to the Upstate in 2001 to begin raft guiding on the Chattooga River. After 15 years of being broke, he joined the MoreSun team and can better afford things now!
Ethan enjoys fishing, boating, hiking and being at the river. He and his girlfriend Kelly are having fun with their Golden Retriever puppy Milly.
Daniel was born in Charleston, raised in Pittsburgh and formerly worked teaching middle and high school English. He moved to the area to be closer to his parents. Daniel enjoys all aspects of timber framing but especially likes being up high during raisings.
Daniel is a talented artist and we're lucky to have some of his artwork hanging in the shop.
Bruce is our finisher - from sanding to making pegs, sawhorses, and trade show displays, he also helps out on job sites. He's really good on a forklift, moving timbers around, loading and unloading trucks and keeping the yard organized.
Bruce likes reading, working, swimming, biking, cooking, working out, football, and streetball. He's also into action adventure movies, Need for Speed racing games, Grand Theft Auto games and playing World of Warcraft. But most of all, Bruce enjoys talking to his daughter Maya.
Joe moved from Pennsylvania to join MoreSun this summer and has quickly become an integral team member. (Will he miss shoveling snow? Our guess is NO!)
Since specializing in carpentry at a technical high school, Joe's been involved in the building trades. From remodeling homes to building tree house retreats, Joe brings a lot of experience to the table.
Jeremy grew up in nearby Pickens County, SC. He worked in his family's business doing earthwork and site preparation while attending Fruitland Bible Academy. Jeremy and Stephen met while working as raft guides on the Chattooga River. In 2008 Jeremy joined the MoreSun team, and just returned after a year in WV. We hope he's back for a long time!
Jeremy enjoys paddling a canoe, teaching the Bible, coffee, rocks, and Clemson Tiger football. His favorite part of timber framing is the raisings - working high off the ground. Jeremy and his wife Jenny live in Tallulah Falls.
Timber Framer / Designer
Zach joined the MoreSun team in April 2017. A native of Walhalla, SC, Zach graduated from Tri-County Technical College with an Associates Degree in Engineering Graphics.
After graduating, Zach worked for a drafting company and a construction company, perfect training grounds for his new position. He's eager to learn timber framing. We're excited to teach him new skills and to have an in-house designer.
Zach enjoys kayaking and spending time outdoors, which means he fits right in with the rest of the crew. He's fixing up a canoe, and is ready to cheer on Clemson when football season rolls around.
Office Manager / Website & Marketing
Carol has been managing offices and keeping books since college. She was the MoreSun bookkeeper from almost our first day in business.
Now she is our full-time Office & Marketing Manager; keeping the books, working on the MoreSun website, writing newsletters, and getting us into the world of social media. A recent find of a treasure trove of project pictures will keep Carol happy for months.
She says the world is divided into people who love Excel and people who hate it, and she's definitely on the love list!
Carol lives right down the road from the office with her husband Sean and their three dogs. She enjoys hanging out at and on the river, creating art, walking in the woods, and swimming.
JAYSON WILSON & LEAH DUFFY
Timber framer, carpenter, problem solver - these are the qualities needed for special projects that come our way. We're lucky have two people working on our current, out of the ordinary jobs.
Jayson Wilson and Leah Duffy are spearheading the stained glass church window projects, removing and replacing windows, and installing and recreating trim. A side benefit is getting to explore these historic timber framed buildings, climbing around in the rafters and ringing a bell forged by Paul Revere's foundry.
Another project for this well-qualified team is restoring an historic building's structure in downtown Wallhalla, SC. We're happy to have them here!
